Offered through the Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering, applied mechanics prepares students for research and professional practice, combining depth in a chosen major specialty with a strong background in the basic and engineering sciences. The Ph.D. is focused on research, with a comprehensive research project resulting in an original contribution documented by a thesis.
