Philosophy

Ph.D. students entering with a master's in philosophy take 30 hours (10 classes) of coursework; students entering without a master's in philosophy take 48 hours (16 classes). All students must satisfy both historical and topical coursework requirements. Historical courses foreground historical methods of philosophical study, while topical courses foreground topical modes such as a question or philosophical problem.
