Materials Science and Engineering

A candidate for the Ph.D. prepares a preliminary program of courses and research providing for specialization in some field, largely through research, in consultation with the adviser. Students pass a qualifying examination in the first or second year and prepare and defend a research proposal as part of the general examination.
