For the Ph.D. degree, students must also pass the doctoral comprehensive examination, carry out original research, complete a dissertation, and pass a final oral examination. They must also pass or transfer at least 36 credits in formal courses numbered above 500 in physics, including 24 credits of core graduate courses, and complete at least 6 credits of formal courses numbered above 600.
