A central trend in the information sector is the merging of media, communication, computers and, especially, the entertainment industry. The information sector, which encompasses media, computer systems, telecommunications, research and development, and advertising, accounts for more than one-third of U.S. GDP. Almost one-half of all new capital investment in the United States is devoted to information technology.
