To be awarded a master's degree, a student must fulfill the specific credit and course requirements of the program and, in most departments, pass an oral or written departmental examination and complete an acceptable master's thesis or equivalent research project. Master of Arts degrees at The New School for Social Research require completion of 30 credits in approved courses, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
